Rubia's unique handcrafted embroidered pieces are imported directly by Rubia, Inc. from Darrai Noor Afghanistan. Each piece purchased from Rubia meets the following criteria for sale in the USA.
Sustaining Cultural Heritage: The embroidered designs come from a deep rooted tradition of embroidery in the Darrai Noor region of Afghanistan. By working with these traditional designs, Rubia craftswomen are preserving a long tradition of expression through embroidery.
Unique form of individual expression: It is nearly impossible to remove the artist from their creation. Rubia uses naturally dyed yarns as well as many kinds of donated fibers to create the unique palate of colors apparent in each Rubia piece. Each woman artisan uses color to express her individual aesthetic taste, while creating beautiful embroidered crafts.
Promoting literacy for women in Afghanistan: Portions of all proceeds support other Rubia projects in Darrai Noor including community schools for girls, boys and women. Each woman signs her work with a unique design and her name in Persian lettering, a demonstration of newly acquired skills. |
